Felicitations to everyone who braved the slightly chilly, slightly rainy weather to enjoy some fantastic orienteering on courses designed by a nationally-recognized expert, Mr. Jim Hall. Jim’s talents were on full display along with his tireless passion for the sport and we are all grateful for his efforts.
There were quite a few “no-shows” which has become typical lately…..idk. If you can’t make it and know that a few days in advance – please let us know so that we can allocate your otherwise unused spot for someone who can attend.
There were also quite a few frustrated folks unable to purchase a map due to sales caps. These limits are based on:
- insufficient event staff
- concern of park officials with over-crowding
The club is reëvaluating participation limits to try and accommodate as much demand as possible given restraints.
What’s really compelling at this time is the need for experienced navigators willing to design and set-out controls for events. All those “seasoned” folks you see running meets had to, at one time, learn how to create courses and properly emplace controls. They were nervous at first; but look at them now! They’re eager to “pass the torch” for the next group of volunteers who’ll keep this awesome outdoor sport going for our area.
All volunteers are greatly appreciated to set-up, run operations, and stick around after the event to pickup controls – like these amazing folks: Dan, Sam, Trisha, Bill, Rick, Walter, Barbara, Pepper, Jim, et. al.
