Crowders Mountain State Park (Results)

All-in-all a very successful orienteering meet in gorgeous weather at one of North Carolina’s best state parks!  A huge thanks to Glen George, superintendent of Crowders Mountain SP, for allowing the club to hold an event.   The park’s professional staff has always been very supportive of orienteering and we’re grateful to use such a splendid place to tromp around in the woods.

New safety protocols seemed to work just fine; but if anyone in attendance has any constructive criticism on how we can improve – drop us a line.   Some people were surprised  they couldn’t study their map before taking off; but we have to avoid anyone milling around.   So, please bear in mind we’ll continue with the rule that once you pick up your map/assigned finger stick – you gotta head straight to start and get rolling along on your course.  Same deal once you finish and get your time recorded – please move away from the area.

Going forward it appears we’ll continue with:

• online pre-registration & payment only
• intermediate & advanced courses only
• pre-printed maps
• electronic time keeping only
• masks required at start area

We may, depending upon the park’s rules, have to limit the number of maps sold to reduce the chance of any crowds forming.  This may also be necessary due to overcrowding of the parks (we saw how competitive parking was….).  Please pay close attention to any caps on the number of participants since it may be “first come-first served”.
