Kings Mountain National Military Park

United we stand!

Another perfect day for orienteering, sunny with a high of about 70 degrees!

The March meet at Kings Mountain National Military Park seems to be very popular, last year we totally shammed up the parking lot, so for this year we had to limit the number of map sales as well as the number of JROTC units allowed to participate. With these stricter limits the event sold out 3 weeks before the event and the parking lot was still almost at capacity. In the future we will have to stay with the limitations we used this year to ensure that we can keep using this beautiful park for future meet.

Jeremiah Reiner came out early in the morning to set the White controls, which was a great help – thank you.

Unfortunately, I had to leave the park on Saturday at noon to attend a funeral that afternoon. A big THANK YOU to all the folk who stepped forward to make sure the event could be concluded without any issues. James Sisk for taking over as “on-site person” once I had to leave, Dan Davis for helping wherever there was a need and the team that helped to pick up the controls at the end of the day: Jess Greer, David Nicols, Dan Davis, and James Sisk.

Also, a big thank you to Park Ranger Bruce Aech, who is our contact for the Special Use Permit, he also came out to the Amphitheater and spent a good amount of time with us (I think he enjoyed being out in this nice weather over sitting in the office and doing paperwork). It is great to have Park Officials who understand what our club’s needs are and are willing to cooperate.
