Kings Mountain State Park – Lake Crawford
April 10 - 10:00 to 12:00Price: $8.00
Welp – this is the last event until fall. We’re all fairly pleased that our limited events went so well. Using thoughtful planning and adherence to guidelines – we’ll have over 300 starts this season (which is down by over 85% … see next paragraph)
One reason things went so well was pre-registration & payment for a pre-printed map & finger stick. This efficient and safe process would be ideal for all future meets. But, the ‘long pole in the tent’ are large groups of young people who have strained the club in the past several years. Demand for orienteering is increasing without the commensurate means to handle all the club operations.
Every person who puts in personal time to make an event happen is a volunteer and makes the effort for the love-of-the-sport. Many thanks to club members who volunteered their time to ensure orienteering continued during unusual times. Please consider helping to put out / pick up controls, coordinate website matters, manage club finances, prepare equipment, handle social media, and a few things more.
The future of orienteering in Charlotte is ours to shape – so please contact Dan Davis or other club officer with any interest you have in volunteering. Stay safe.
Please note the following particulars for this meet:
All vehicles must stop and self-pay the South Carolina State Park Entry Fee at the entrance. Cash envelopes are provided for payment (be sure to keep your part of the entry pass and place it on your dashboard).
No walk-ups allowed. Only those who have pre-registered and pre-paid online are allowed on courses. No cash or check payments accepted. Please use the “ticket reservation” feature below to register & pay. Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you’ll see courses with a button to indicate how many maps you wish to purchase. Click afterwards and a new window will open where you input your name, email, favorite Beatle’s song, and credit card info. You should receive a confirmation email after payment is made (BTW – the system won’t go through if you don’t click on the waiver button).
Map sales are limited by park rules – first come / first served. Once we’ve reached the limit imposed by the park – map sales are final. This event’s cap: 30 Orange / 10 Green / 10 Red
Map sales end at 1900hrs, Wednesday, April 7, 2021 or sooner once cap is reached (maps are typically sold out weeks in advance).
Discounts for scouts, members, and JROTC are are temporarily suspended until further notice.
Maps are $8.00 each. You select which course and how many maps using the “ticket reservation” system. Your payment includes:
- one finger stick for electronic punching. Finger sticks will be disinfected prior to the meet and will not be re-issued during the meet. Please bring your own if you have one. Controls do not have manual punches. You may elect not to have your time recorded – but, you must still check out/in with the time-keeper
- map(s) with your selected course(s) printed on them. Maps will be issued at the meet
- an indemnification waiver Every participant must sign a waiver either by purchasing a map or in-person at the meet. If you are going on a course using a map that someone else purchased – please print out, sign, and bring a waiver form with you (we’ll have some at the meet as well if you forget).
Groups (e.g. scouts, JROTC) are allowed; but due to limits imposed by park officials – we cannot exceed 50 participants. Therefore, do not purchase a map for use by small groups. Instead, each individual must purchase a map.
At the park: Follow directional signs to the meet location SHELTER #5.
Masks are required only at the registration and time-keeping areas. Let’s self-police keeping the ubiquitous 2 meter space between us (this includes while your out on a course).
This is a rain or shine event open to the general public. BYOC (please bring your own compass). No start times after 12PM.
