We finally got McDowell in for our 22/23 season after having to cancel in October due to
weather. January turned out fine though. Chilly in the early morning but about perfect for midday. We had a new course designer for this meet, Sergei Zhyk. There were a lot of good comments about his courses and it was good to get some new help for this task. We look forward to having Sergei back next season.
James Sisk put on a special training session which was well attended and James is an excellent O instructor. It would be great if we could have sessions like this every meet but the club just doesn’t have the volunteers to do it.
John Davis from Crest High School handled the JROTC administrative duties. John is one of our regulars at our meets and has a good understanding of our system. Well done, John but one of these days you need to bring your bag pipes! After all, orienteering is very popular in Scotland.
Jeannette Davis is getting to be a regular taking care of the administrative duties for the club side of the meet. She was assisted by Debbie & Buzz Knight who will be doing this work at Lake Crawford in April. This is a new position that has been created called Meet Host. It requires a minimum of training and consist of keeping track of the starts & finishes for the event. VOLUNTEERS ARE WELCOME. Just let Dan Davis know. The position is filled for the rest of this season but next season is around the corner.
You may have noted that the Brown course is being added to most of our meets. Brown is ranked along side Red & Green in technical difficulty but is a shorter version of those courses. Great for those of us that may be finding Red or Green just a bit too long.
Wow, did i get the volunteers for control pickup at McDowell! Thank all of you so much. We were able to clear out of the park in record time. These positions are needed at every meet and doesn’t interfere with you doing a course, so let Dan Davis know if you can help.
Thanks to all of you that came out to run a course. Hope you had as much fun participating as those of us that put the event on did.
