Training Workshop (for all)

November 18, 2017 - 09:30 to 12:00

Price: Free
learn to read a map

Learning to read a map is a life-long endeavor!

This special, non-competitive event is open to the general public and is designed to help folks “up their game” with using a compass & map for orienteering.

Often, people come out to meets and go out on a course they’re comfortable with; but at times – they may want to acquire skills that can take them to more advance courses (e.g. yellow-to-orange; orange-to-brown, etc.). That’s the focus of this workshop.

COK seasoned pros will be on hand to provide instruction and tips for navigation. You’ll be able to go out into the woods with a mentor that will help you learn about:

  • attack points
  • handrails
  • contouring
  • pace counting
  • topography evaluation

and many more ways to make orienteering more precise and enjoyable.  In just a few hours – you’ll understand orienteering in a whole new way!

This event is rain or shine and participants are asked to pay $5 to cover the cost of a map.  Participants will also be required to sign a waiver of liability form on the day of training.  Map RSVP cuts off 11/15 at noon.

Training begins at 9:30 in the large parking lot near the Nature Center – rain or shine.

On the day of the meet – please look for directional signs to registration.

Even though Q offered 007 advanced GPS gadgets – Bond prefers to do orienteering old school with map & compass. But, orienteering in a tux?  Really.
Bond, James Bond
