Just a few helpful tips for those who are new to the great outdoor sport of orienteering:
- There are some informative YouTube videos on techniques that are worth searching for & watching. Look for key words like: attack points, catch features, and aiming off. Learning and implementing these techniques will certainly make orienteering much more enjoyable for you.
- For your safety and our accountability – always ensure you check out with the time keeper before going out on a course and always check back in with the same person – even if you don’t finish. Many of our meet locations are in parks with coyotes and if you’re lost and they eat you – that might make them sick.
- Feel free to ask one of the meet personnel for training and assistance with map reading, using a compass, or general orienteering techniques. We’re always eager to help!
